Cal Cunningham: Relief Bill a Necessary Step for North Carolina Hospitals, Washington Will Need to Do More

Army veteran and U.S. Senate candidate Cal Cunningham said passage of a third federal Coronavirus relief package is a necessary step, especially for North Carolina hospitals who need resources, and added that this crisis will demand additional federal action:

"Here in North Carolina, local hospitals need support and supplies, our unemployment claims are skyrocketing, and millions of our neighbors are making tough decisions about how to spend a dollar when they're not sure when the next one will come in. For those reasons, this bill is a necessity for the people of our state.

"At the same time, I am concerned by some of the transparency and oversight provisions in this bill. As an Army prosecutor, I earned the Bronze Star on my lapel for taking on corrupt government contractors trying to get rich while our nation was at war. It's the same corruption I intend to fight in Washington, and it's wrong that Senator Thom Tillis was ready to greenlight this bill without first securing basic provisions to guard against that kind of behavior.

"We know this pandemic will continue to require federal action, and I will continue to listen to people across our state, especially our underserved and rural communities, to better understand their needs and advocate for them."

Cal's campaign is following recommendations of health officials and Gov. Cooper, postponing in-person events and teleworking.
